Sleep plays a very important role to lead a healthy life. Getting a quality sleep can reduce the risk of some serious diseases. Good sleep can also keep you in a good mental and physical health.

The way you behave the whole day highly depends on the quality of sleep you get. When you fell asleep, your body works on to give support to brain function and maintaining good physical health. In children and teens, good sleep determines better growth and development.

Sleep deficiency can sometimes lead to Mental Sickness. It also can affect how well you think, react, work, learn, and get along with others.

Some people have this common problem of not getting proper sleep. They say that they try very hard but they can’t sleep. Not sleeping for a longer time may lead you to a disease known as “insomnia” that can have some serious effects on you.


There are various reasons that you are not getting a good night 7-8 hours of sleep. Figure them out and try to get rid of them soon.

1. Stress

Every one of us suffers from some kind of stress such as exams, deadlines, work, etc.  Stress has some bad effect on your brain. When you are under stress, your brain focuses on that part and because of this, it keeps revolving around your brain making you think more and depriving of sleep. Perform some meditation to free your brain from unnecessary thoughts.

2. Unhealthy Diet

Our diet defines our overall health and sleep is no exception. Our body is dependent on amino acids, vitamins, and minerals from which it creates the calming neurotransmitters that allow us to sleep. If you are not eating enough nutritious food, your body starts lacking the intake of vital nutrients, and that in turn affect your sleep. Never go to bed with a full stomach. Have your dinner 3-4 hours before your sleeping time.

3. Night Peeing

Waking up in the night with an urge and desperate need to empty your tank. A common issue with most of the people. But do you know that it can affect you in a very strange or less obvious way?

In the night, your body sends a signal to your brain that it needs to pee. When your brain starts getting too many signals it starts waking you up and when this happens continuously, your body becomes habitual of waking up for too long. It’s always advisable to pee before you sleep, that your sleep doesn’t get disturbed.


4. Hungry before Sleep

Bad diet affects your sleep, but no diet affects it more. If you go to sleep empty stomach, then your body starts eating your inner energy and indirectly affecting your sleep. 

You should not go to bed with a full stomach, but also never sleep empty stomach.

5. Stay away from Gadgets

Mobiles, Laptops, video games have overtaken our life control and on top of that, social media websites. A normal human being spends 2-3 hours a day on social media. This is affecting your sleep to a large extent.

Never go to sleep with a gadget around you. Turn off all your electronic devices at least 45 minutes before you go to sleep. Read some books, newspaper or anything that helps you calming your brain.


6. Hormonal Changes 

This is a common problem in women. During their periods, they go through a lot of hormone changes, mood swings, cramps, body aches. This disturbs their sleep to a large extent and they are not able to have a sound sleep at night.
